Has anything in health care improved for the better for us patients\u2026 for anyone?<\/p>\n
Over 10 years ago as we approached the new millennium I was finishing an intensive\u00a0Health Policy Fellowship<\/a>. \u00a0As a synthesis of all I had seen and learned from an insider\u2019s perspective, I penned a\u00a0vision of what I thought healthcare should look<\/a>\u00a0like in the next century. \u00a0It was more a statement of some twenty principles and directions rather than specifics. We are now more than a full decade into the 21st century so it seems a good time to take a look at my old roadmap.\u00a0 \u00a0Perhaps it is a measure of my current pessimistic state of mind, but I am not immediately able to declare progress towards\u00a0any\u00a0of the goals I envisioned.\u00a0 In fact, it seems at first blush that despite all the money and best efforts of public and private interests, that most of the items on my wish list are getting worse.<\/p>\n What do you think? \u00a0Please prove me wrong.\u00a0 Help me indentify something good that has happened to us as collective patients.\u00a0 Is anyone better off?\u00a0\u00a0 If so, who? \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Convince me that we are not irreversibly lost in a status quo of decreasing access to healthcare of uncontrollable cost, and of unknowable quality.<\/p>\n Add a comment below.\u00a0 I will not spam you, I promise.<\/p>\n Peter Hasselbacher<\/p>\nShare this:<\/h3>
