Photographs of Selected Properties

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, I made a field trip to the Norton/Jewish Hospital side of the East-End Medical Center near the intersections of Breckenridge Lane, the Watterson Expressway, and I-64.  I wanted better understanding of the relationships of the accumulating land and buildings purchased by Jewish Hospital/ St. Mary's, and more recently KentuckyOne Health. It is an impressive collection of real estate that gives a great deal of flexibility to KentuckyOne, as well as denying the property to competitors.

Below is a plot map of the Dupont Circle area.  I will be referring to street numbers and building names as we go on. See also the discussion in recent articles in the KHPI Policy Blog. A full resolution version of the image is available on request.

Below is an almost-180 degree panorama view ranging from the Jewish Hospital Medical Center East on the left to the village 8 Cinema on the right. I am standing on the the middle of the southern edge of lot 1114 by the driveway to the residential Shenandoah Condominium development. In the middle we are looking directly across lots 1114 and 1112 at the existing building on lot 1110. The arcades of the strip building along Dutchman's Ln. can be seen to the right of this one-story red brick building. The tall office building attached to the Norton Suburban Hospital is visible towards the right. One could do a lot with this land! (A very high resolution version of the panorama view (4.5 MB) is available on request.)

Below is a view across lot 1112 from its driveway near Dupont Circle.  The bridge to the hospital is evident near the center and the structure on lot 1110 on the right.

Below is a further look to the right across 1112 towards the parking lot and strip office building on Dutchman's. The red brick building sits on lot 1110. The existing building hidden on 1108 is also shown.

Below is half of the Dutchman's Lane office building closest to Jewish Hospital East. It currently contains a spa, dentist's office, maternity services, optician, and fast food restaurant.

Below is a view from the parking lot of Shenandoah Condominiums. The other side of the building on the right faces lot 1114. Jewish Hospital East is seen in the middle. Access to Shenandoah is limited as the area is surrounded by Interstates 64 and 264. Their neighborhood will be affected by upcoming changes.

Below is a view from the far east corner of Dupont Circle in front of the Dupont Medical Center office building. The Surgecenter with its green trim (lot 4005) and the former neighboring Oliver's Billiards on lot 4001 can be seen. Further down Dupont Cir is a one story medical office building, the back of the cinema complex, and in the distance, Jewish Hospital East.

Finally, below are two views of the former Vogt building on lot 4000, first seen from Dupont Circle, and secondly, a view of the "back" of the building facing the Watterson Expressway. In the background of the latter photo can be seen the Dupont Medical Center (4004) and a the large professional office building (4010) on the eastern side of Dupont Circle. It is the structure on lot 4000 that I predict will house private practice offices of University of Louisville and Jewish Hospital physicians.
