Dr. Florman, a graduate of St. Francis School and University of Louisville Medical School, will share the fascinating story of his journey from growing up in Louisville, to rebuilding the transplant program in post-Katrina New Orleans, and to leading the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Kentucky to the World (KTW) showcases highly successful individuals with strong Kentucky connections who are seldom seen or heard here.  Dr. Florman’s work as the Director of the Transplant Institute at Tulane University in New Orleans earned him recognition as one of New Orleans Magazine’s “People to Watch”. He was twice named “Health Care Hero” by New Orleans CityBusiness and was chosen as one of Gambit Weekly’s “40 Under 40.” He was recognized by Louisiana Life magazine as one of Louisiana’s “Top Doctors” and “Best Doctors” in 2007-2009. Florman is the author of nine book chapters and more than 75 publications.

EVENT DETAILS-

“Life Saving Organ Transplants-Ethics, Politics &Technology.”

Dr. Florman will give an overview of the “ins and outs” of organ transplantation in ways that everyone can understand, and tackle the most pressing issues and misconceptions in transplants today including the startling discrepancy between donors and those in need. Among other topics, he will address political issues surrounding the selling and buying of organs. Dr. Florman will share success stories of some transplant recipients who have gone on to lead fully productive lives– including NBA players and Olympic medal winners– and will participate in an interactive Q&A session following his talk.

The evening interview event will be held on Thursday March 12, on the Fourth Floor of the Henry Clay Building (604 S. 3rd St.). Reception is at 5:30 pm followed by the program at 6:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased for $25 at www.kentuckytotheworld.org .  Ticket price includes light refreshments and a cash bar. Due to space limitations, no tickets will be sold at the door.
